My magic was the grass and the green sunshine. 
But what could match this wonder, oh,
I wonder, unborn child of mine?

My mother was a warrior and she made me strong;
My father was a saint taught me right from wrong. 
But law now sins and lauds defeat –
With my books burned, what can you learn from me?

If all that you’ve got are heartless toys,  
How can you grow to a wise strong boy?

But how can you bloom in a rootless world?  

Why would I burden this hopeless time
With one more soul earth can’t provide for?
Why would we choose, though, to deny
Your eyes the sight of the morning lilac?

Dry your crying eyes.

How could we live and leave you lifeless
In eternal lands of silence?
Would an age unkind and violent
